As a ranching family, dogs have always been a part of my life. However, my intrigue with the Australian Shepherd started when I was in grade school. I have a clear memory of gentleman who owned a sweet blue merle Aussie that intrigued me. She was smart, beautiful and all of Los Alamos was in love with her.

Fast forward a few, well, actually many years, and I found myself in a new place. My children were raised and out of the house; I had sold my business and suddenly I had time to explore my passion for this breed. For my first dog, I chose a miniature Aussie; they have all of the same great personality traits in a smaller package than the breed standard, making them the perfect household pet.

In 2007 I adopted Macy, my sweet, smart blue merle mini aussie; she is all that I dreamed of for so many years. With a passion for this breed, I became a small, hobby breeder raising the occasional litter. Along this journey, I realized seeing the joy they bring my family and especially their ability to connect with my grandchildren has made my love for the breed grow even more.

It’s been amazing to see the Miniature American Shepherd breed develop and be recognized by the AKC as separate breed from the Standard Australian Shepherd. With the litters I raise I get to share my love for the breed with other like-minded people. It fills my heart to know that one of my littles may be handed off to you to become an integral part of your family, filling your life with love and joy. –DeeCee
